SVP Chicago is changing how philanthropy is done.
SVP Chicago’s approach draws from philanthropy’s origins — investing connections, money and skills-based volunteerism — to help the community-based nonprofits we serve create greater impact in their South and West Side neighborhoods.
While we draw on philanthropy’s origins, we’re also filling in gaps traditional philanthropy often leaves behind. That means intentionally partnering with nonprofits led by individuals with a strong connection to the issues they’re tackling.
To date, we’ve partnered with 47 nonprofits in disinvested communities on Chicago’s South and West Sides.
“I was fascinated by this notion of a kind of active philanthropy where you not only donate dollars, but you actually donate time and effort to working with those community-based nonprofits. That was really the motivation for me: to get more involved, give back and have an experience that's more rewarding than just simply writing checks.” — Garrett Sheridan, SVP Partner
“Through relationship building and intentional steps to shift the power dynamic — key facets of trust-based philanthropy — we’re easing the burdens of nonprofit leaders so they can focus on what matters most: creating greater impact in their communities.” — Evelyn Fitzgerald, Executive Director, SVP Chicago
